Luke is the founder of Be Rhythmic, a program and philosophy focused on creating and teaching simple, engaging, rhythmic practices and regulation strategies. We may not all be musically gifted, but Luke believes we can all learn to Be Rhythmic. He has created an ever expanding series of rhythm patterns and interactive activities to help promote regulation and learning through repetition, movement and expression for children, teens, adults, parents, and educators.

Episode 11: Jamila Gordon

Jamila Gordon is in her 15th year in education and is serving her community as an Assistant Principal at Boston P-8 in Aurora Public Schools. Throughout her years working with youth, families and communities, Jamila has served as a Juvenile Detention Officer, School Counselor, Mental Health Specialist and most recently as a System Support Specialist in the APS Division of Equity in Learning.

Episode 9: Bobbi Jene Smith

Bobbi Jene Smith is a part-time faculty member at the Juilliard School in New York City, and guest teaching at NYU and UArts. In 2017 she became a founding member of the American Modern Opera Company (AMOC).The documentary Bobbi Jene which follows her trajectory of leaving a dance company to create her own work, swept the Tribeca Film Festival, winning best documentary, best cinematography, and best editing in 2017.

Over the last thirty years, Dr. Perry has been an active teacher, clinician and researcher in children’s mental health and the neurosciences holding a variety of academic positions. His work on the impact of abuse, neglect and trauma on the developing brain has impacted clinical practice, programs and policy across the world.

Episode 7: Letia Frandina

Letia Frandina is a founder and Board member of the Downtown Denver Expeditionary School in 2011 and currently the Executive Director. She earned her doctorate in communication studies from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Her research and professional background is invested in inclusive community building and public spaces. She ran a start-up community space and business for families, Little Closets, featured in New York Magazine, before returning to her home state of Colorado. She is a first generation college graduate of Colorado State University, an adjunct professor, and a graduate of the 2015 Downtown Denver Partnership Leadership class. She believes in student-centered, community-focused education for all four of her children.

Stevie L. McBride, LMFT, a Trauma Informed Consultant in The Guidance Center’s It’s T.I.M.E. (Trauma Informed Movement in Education) Program, where he helps guide teachers and school administration understand the impact of trauma with our youth. He is especially passionate about collaborating with teacher and school administration and discovering key strategies to help them build healthy relationships with each other and most importantly the students.
